Just for Laughs Festival

The Just for Laughs Festival is Montreal’s international comedy festival, held every summer in July and centred on the Quartier des Spectacles around Place des Arts. It began in the early 1980s as a French-language event, grew into a bilingual celebration of stand-up, sketch and variety, and became one of the best-known comedy festivals in the world. For two weeks, the downtown core fills with comedians, audiences and street entertainers, and the city’s nightlife shifts toward laughter.

The programme mixes English and French shows, which is part of what makes the festival distinctively Montreal. Comedians from Canada, the United States, Britain and many other countries perform in theatres, clubs and cabarets, while Quebec performers appear in French in the same venues.
