Chesterman Beach, located a few kilometres south of downtown Tofino, is one of the town's most popular beaches. This long, wide crescent of pale sand is named after an early settler. The beach is divided into north and south sections by a sandbar (tombolo) that runs out to Frank Island and is exposed at low tide.

The atmosphere is vibrant and social, attracting families, friends, and surfers alike. Its gentle, consistent waves make it a favourite for beginner surfers and surf schools. Visitors often gather here to watch the sunset, fly kites, or play games like bocce ball on the soft sand. The area is also a haven for wildlife enthusiasts, with frequent sightings of sea otters, osprey, and, during the migration season, gray whales.

The beach is accessible via a walk or bike path, and the nearby town provides easy access to amenities. At low tide you can walk out along the sand towards Frank Island; the island itself is private, so stay on the beach. Summer is the warmest time for the beach, while winter brings dramatic storm watching; the Pacific is cold all year, so wear a wetsuit to surf or swim. Chesterman Beach remains a central hub for both relaxation and active recreation, capturing the essence of coastal British Columbia.
