Canada's festive season has three published 2026 dates to plan around: Calgary's ZOOLIGHTS and Vancouver's Canyon Lights, which both start in November, and Quebec City's German Christmas Market from 19 November to 23 December. Christmas Day is Friday 25 December 2026, Boxing Day is Saturday 26 December and New Year's Day is Friday 1 January 2027. Most cities have not yet announced their New Year's Eve programmes, so for those this guide gives last year's pattern, labelled with the year. Our guides to the Christmas markets in Quebec City and the holiday markets in Toronto cover those two in detail.
Vancouver: Canyon Lights from 20 November
The Capilano Suspension Bridge Park lights up its canyon trails and bridge with thousands of lights. The park's own page lists Canyon Lights from 20 November 2026 to 10 January 2027, with park hours from 11 am to 10 pm, last entry at 9 pm. The park is closed on 25 December. The lights are included with admission, and no separate ticket price is listed. One other listing on the same site gave 3 January as the last day, so confirm the end date before you plan an early-January visit.

Stanley Park's Bright Nights train has moved. CBC reported in September 2025 that the event left Stanley Park and now runs as the Noel Holiday Light Festival at the Cloverdale Fairgrounds in Surrey. A listing gives about 27 November to 29 December 2026, to be confirmed. The Vancouver Christmas Market at Jack Poole Plaza is listed from late November to 24 December, which we only saw in a search summary.

New Year's Eve: Daily Hive reported on 29 December 2025 that there were no public fireworks in Vancouver for New Year's Eve 2025. That is last year's pattern, and nothing for 2026/27 has been published.
Calgary and Banff
- Calgary Zoo ZOOLIGHTS: the zoo's page lists 13 November 2026 to 3 January 2027, every night from 5:30 to 9:30 pm, with last admission at 9 pm. It is closed on 25 December and open on 31 December. The animal buildings are closed during the event.
- Banff and Lake Louise: the tourism site lists the Banff Christmas Market at the Banff Train Station on select dates from 19 November to 13 December 2026, the Hot Chocolate Trail from 12 November 2026 to 7 February 2027, "In Search of Christmas Spirit" in the Cascade of Time Garden on select dates from 12 November to 3 January, "A Very Vintage Mountaintop Christmas" on select dates from 21 November to 31 December, and the CPKC Holiday Train on 15 December. Several restaurants, among them Crave, La Terrazza, The Fat Ox and Juniper, list Christmas Day dinners and brunches, and Crave has a New Year's Eve dinner on 31 December. In earlier years, ski areas held torchlight parades on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve; no 2026 dates have been published. Our Banff winter guide has the rest.
Quebec City: German Christmas Market, 19 November to 23 December
The Marché de Noël allemand runs from 19 November to 23 December 2026. The official page says it is open Thursday to Sunday each week, plus Monday 21, Tuesday 22 and Wednesday 23 December. Hours are 11 am to 9 pm on Thursday to Saturday and 11 am to 6 pm on Sunday until 20 December, 11 am to 9 pm on 21 and 22 December, and 11 am to 8 pm on 23 December. It has six free sites in the Old Town, among them Place D'Youville. It closes before New Year's Eve, and no 2026/27 programme for New Year's Eve in Quebec City has been published.

Toronto and Montreal: last year's pattern
- Toronto: the city's release of 22 December 2025 said the Cavalcade of Lights at Nathan Phillips Square continued until Wednesday 7 January 2026, and the New Year's Eve show into 2026 was a free 10-minute fireworks display launched from the inner harbour at midnight and livestreamed. The 2026/27 dates have not been published; the Cavalcade opened on 29 November in 2025, so expect late November.
- Montreal: Tourisme Montréal's guide for 2025 described "Grand Minuit", a free event on Quai Jacques-Cartier in the Old Port, starting at 7:30 pm with a midnight countdown. The guide does not mention fireworks, and sources conflict. The 2026 programme has not been published.

Niagara Falls
The Winter Festival of Lights ran from 15 November 2025 to 4 January 2026 last season. A Clifton Hill listing gives 14 November 2026 to 10 January 2027, but we could not confirm that on an official page, so expect mid-November to early January. No New Year's Eve fireworks have been announced.
Holidays, Boxing Day and getting around
Ontario's list of public holidays includes Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day. We could not confirm the rules for Quebec, British Columbia or Alberta from an official page, so check the province's labour page for the exact days. Many shops and attractions close on 25 December, and Capilano and the Calgary Zoo are confirmed closed. Boxing Day is the traditional start of the sales, but opening hours for 2026 are not published, so check each shop. Via Rail has not published a 2026 holiday schedule, so check viarail.ca, and look at the provincial road reports (DriveBC, 511 Alberta, Ontario 511 and Québec 511) before you drive in winter.
