Plains of Abraham

The Plains of Abraham, located in Quebec City, is a National Historic Park and one of the world’s most significant urban green spaces. Established as a historic site in 1908, the park is the site of two pivotal battles in 1759 and 1760, where British forces defeated the French, shaping the course of Canadian history. The park covers approximately 103 hectares and serves as a major recreational destination, attracting millions of visitors annually.

The Plains of Abraham Museum, located at 835 Wilfrid-Laurier Avenue, acts as the park’s reception center. It features multimedia exhibitions on the 1759 siege, archaeological artifacts, and interactive displays about the conflicts. The museum is open year-round and includes a gift shop. Seasonal exhibitions, such as those on the Great Wars and landscape architecture, run from June 20 to September 7.

Visitors can enjoy a variety of activities throughout the year. In summer, the park offers picnicking under century-old trees, jogging, and concerts at the Edwin Bélanger Bandstand. The Joan of Arc Garden provides a peaceful retreat. In winter, the park transforms into a hub for outdoor activities, offering free cross-country skiing and snowshoeing on groomed trails. Key landmarks within the park include the Martello Tower and the Pinsonnault Club. An interactive map is available to help visitors explore the 30+ points of interest, including monuments and trails. The park is accessible year-round, providing a blend of historical education and natural recreation.
