Niagara Parks Butterfly Conservatory
Niagara Parks Butterfly Conservatory
The Niagara Parks Butterfly Conservatory, located at 2565 Niagara Parkway, offers a unique indoor tropical experience in Niagara Falls, Ontario. Operated by the Niagara Parks Commission, this glass-enclosed conservatory houses over 2,000 butterflies from various species. The facility features an 180-meter pathway that winds through lush vegetation, allowing visitors to observe butterflies in a naturalistic setting.
The conservatory is open year-round, operating daily from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Admission is priced at $25 per person, plus taxes. Tickets can be purchased online or at the entrance. Visitors can also gain entry with a Niagara Falls Adventure Pass Plus. To enhance the experience, it is recommended to wear bright colors and remain still, as this increases the likelihood of butterflies landing on you.
The site includes a theatre and educational displays that provide information about butterfly life cycles and conservation efforts. The conservatory is part of the larger Niagara Parks School of Horticulture grounds, which span 40 hectares. The facility undergoes regular maintenance, including a significant shutdown every seven to eight years for structural updates, such as replacing screen netting to ensure the safety of the butterflies.
Located approximately 9 kilometers north of the main Niagara Falls attractions, the conservatory provides a peaceful and educational retreat. It is a popular destination for families and nature enthusiasts seeking to learn about these insects in a controlled, immersive environment.
