The Bioparc de la Gaspésie is a wildlife park in Bonaventure, a town on the Baie des Chaleurs on the south coast of the Gaspé Peninsula in Quebec. It is devoted to the native animals of the Gaspésie, and it lets visitors see species from the region in settings that imitate their natural habitats. The park is a mix of a small zoo, an educational centre and a nature walk, and it is a popular stop for families driving around the peninsula.

The collection focuses on about forty species of native fauna. Larger mammals of the northern forests, such as moose, black bears, lynx and foxes, are the main draw for many visitors, and smaller animals, including otters, beavers and porcupines, are also on show. Seabirds and birds of prey are represented, and a dedicated pavilion shows amphibians and reptiles, which are less often seen in the wild. An insectarium looks at the smaller creatures that make up most of the region’s biodiversity, with displays of butterflies, beetles and other insects, and there are exhibits on the sea and the marine life of the Gulf of St. Lawrence, which suits a park in a region so closely tied to the water.

Visitors explore on outdoor trails that wind through woods and open areas, with enclosures set beside the paths. The layout is designed to let animals have space and cover, so patience is useful when looking for the shy ones. Information panels along the way explain the biology and habits of each species, and staff and guides offer talks and feeding demonstrations in season. A mini-farm gives younger children a chance to see domestic animals up close, and picnic areas let families stop for a meal.

The park is run as a seasonal attraction, open from early summer into autumn, with last admission before closing time, so allow at least two hours for a visit and more for a relaxed pace. The grounds are accessible by road and have free parking, including space for buses and RVs. Cottage rentals on site allow longer stays, and groups can arrange special rates. The park accepts major credit cards.

Bonaventure itself is worth knowing. The town was founded in 1760 by Acadians who had fled the deportation and found refuge on this coast, and the Musée acadien du Québec, nearby, tells their story. The surrounding Baie des Chaleurs has warm, shallow waters by Gaspé standards, and beaches, cycling routes and the Bonaventure River, known for salmon, are close at hand. The Bioparc suits families and nature lovers, and it combines naturally with a visit to the museum and a walk along the shore.
