Sentier des Sommets (Summit Trail)
Elevated walkway in Laurentian forest
The Sentier des Sommets, also known as the Sentier des Cimes, is a unique ecological trail located within the Laurentian Mountains, distinct from the commercial ski resort areas. This elevated walkway offers a unique perspective on the region's forest ecosystem, allowing visitors to experience the canopy level of the forest. The trail is approximately 2 kilometers long and takes approximately two hours to complete, providing a moderate level of physical activity.
The trail features a series of wooden walkways and bridges that traverse the treetops, offering 360-degree views of the surrounding Laurentian forest. This perspective allows visitors to observe the structure of the forest, including the towering sugar maples and other native trees, from a unique vantage point. The trail is designed to be accessible, with a gentle slope and railings, making it suitable for visitors of varying abilities, though children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult.
Admission to the trail is required, with specific fees for adults, students, and children. Tickets must be booked in advance, and the trail is open seasonally, typically from late spring to early autumn. The experience is designed to be educational, with information panels along the path that provide insights into the local flora and the ecological significance of the region. The trail offers a peaceful and immersive experience, allowing visitors to connect with the natural environment in a unique way.
