The Jasper SkyTram offers a unique way to experience the Canadian Rockies, carrying visitors from a base station a few kilometres south of the town of Jasper high up the slopes of Whistlers Mountain. As Canada’s longest and highest guided aerial tramway, this attraction provides a unique perspective on the surrounding landscape. The ride itself takes approximately seven minutes, climbing almost a kilometre to the upper station at about 2,263 metres. This gentle ascent allows visitors to appreciate the panoramic views without the physical exertion required for hiking, making it accessible to travelers of all ages and fitness levels.
From the upper station, boardwalks lead to viewpoints, and a steep trail of a little over a kilometre climbs to the true summit of Whistlers Mountain at about 2,470 metres, with views over the Athabasca and Miette valleys and, on clear days, as far as Mount Robson. The summit area includes a café, offering a place to rest and enjoy the alpine atmosphere.
Operations are seasonal, roughly spring to autumn, with the longest hours in summer, and timed departures are best booked in advance. The tramway first opened in 1964. The area was affected by the 2024 Jasper wildfire, so check the operator's website for the current season before you go. Weather at the top can be much colder and windier than in town, so bring a warm layer. Visitors should plan for at least an hour at the summit to enjoy the views and facilities, though those wishing to hike may spend several hours exploring the trails.
