High Park

High Park, located in Toronto, is the city’s largest municipal park, spanning 161 hectares. Established in 1876 through a land bequest from John George Howard, the park offers a mix of recreational facilities and natural landscapes. It is situated west of downtown, stretching from Bloor Street West to The Queensway, and is accessible via public transit at High Park and Keele stations.

Approximately one-third of the park remains in a natural state, featuring a rare oak savannah ecology and deep ravines. One of the eastern ravines is designated as a provincial Area of Natural and Scientific Interest. The park is known for its cherry blossom trees, which bloom in the spring, attracting visitors from across the region. Other key features include Grenadier Pond, extensive hiking trails, and various gardens.

High Park also houses a free zoo, offering families an opportunity to see animals up close. The park includes sporting facilities, playgrounds, and educational spaces, making it a versatile destination for both relaxation and activity. Admission to High Park is free year-round, allowing for flexible visitation. The park is managed by the Toronto Parks, Forestry & Recreation department, ensuring maintained trails and facilities. It serves as a significant green space for residents and tourists, providing a peaceful retreat within the urban environment.
