Citadelle of Quebec

The Citadelle of Quebec, located in Old Québec, is North America’s oldest military base and a National Historic Site. It serves as the official residence of the Governor General of Canada and the home of the Royal 22e Régiment. The fortress offers a unique blend of history and active military life, featuring a 60-minute guided tour that explores its 300-year history.

Visitors can access the site daily, with hours varying by season. From May 16 to August 31, the Citadelle is open from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM. During the fall and winter months, from September 1 to May 21, it operates from 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM. Admission fees apply, with general tickets costing $22 for adults and $20 for seniors and students. Children under 10 enter for free, while those aged 11–17 pay $8. A family pass is available for $50.

The tour includes access to the Royal 22e Régiment Museum, where visitors can view artifacts and learn about the regiment’s heritage. A highlight of the visit is the Noon Cannon Blast, a daily tradition that echoes across the city. For groups of four or more, a VIP tour is available for $30 per person, offering a 90-minute experience that includes access to sacred areas reserved for the regiment. The Citadelle provides a comprehensive look at Canadian military history and culture, set against the backdrop of the historic city walls.
